How Do I Apply for an EIN?
There are four ways to apply:
1. Online (Fastest & Easiest)
- Visit the IRS EIN Application Portal
- Available Mon–Fri, 7 AM to 10 PM EST
- Instant EIN upon successful submission
2. By Fax
- Complete IRS Form SS-4
- Fax it to the appropriate IRS number
- Receive EIN in about 4–5 business days
3. By Mail
- Mail the completed Form SS-4 to the IRS
- Processing can take up to 4 weeks
4. By Phone (International Applicants Only)
- Call 267-941-1099 (Not toll-free)
- Only for entities with no legal residence in the U.S.
What You Need to Apply
- Legal name of your business/entity
- Type of entity (LLC, corporation, nonprofit, etc.)
- Responsible party’s name and SSN or ITIN
- Mailing address and location of the business
